The Happy Lettering Club is your all-in-one resource for growing your lettering skills with confidence and creativity!

Spring is here, and honestly? It’s my favorite season to letter. Everything feels fresh and full of possibility — and that energy just begs to show up in all your creative endeavors.

If you’ve been looking for a reason to dust off your paints and pens, this is it. Here are 7 fun spring projects to work on right now, all with the help of lettering templates.  Plus ideas for how to make each one totally your own!

Spring Welcome & Outdoor Lettering Projects

Nothing says “hello, spring!” quite like giving your front door or yard a little seasonal refresh. These projects are perfect for crafters who love making a statement with their space.

Door Hangers

A hand-lettered door hanger is one of the easiest ways to bring personality to your front door, and it makes such a sweet first impression for guests.

Think soft pastels, fresh florals, and phrases like “Hello Spring,” “Welcome, Sunshine,” or “Spring Has Sprung.” Using traceable lettering templates for signs takes all the guesswork out of the design so you can focus on painting and decorating.

A couple of tips: seal your finished door hanger with a sealant spray to protect it from spring showers, and don’t be afraid to add dimensional flowers or greenery to make it pop even more!

Yard and Garden Signs

Take your lettering outside! Garden signs are such a charming touch — whether it’s a little marker for your herb garden, a welcome sign for your front yard, or a mini door hanger styled for a garden gate.

For this kind of project, you’ll want to use weather-resistant materials and finish with an outdoor sealant, so your hard work holds up through rain and wind. Phrases like “Garden in Progress,” “Grow Something Beautiful,” or even herb labels are sweet, practical, and totally giftable too!

Spring Holiday & Gifting Lettering Projects

Spring brings so many reasons to celebrate — Easter, Mother’s Day, birthdays, and all the little moments in between. These projects let you add a handmade touch to each one.

Easter Decor

If Easter snuck up on you this year — same — don’t worry. You can still whip up something adorable in an afternoon. Easter is one of the most fun seasons for lettering because the color palette is so cute: soft pinks, lavender, mint green, and sunny yellow.

Try lettering a simple Easter door hanger or a tabletop sign with phrases like “He Is Risen,” “Hoppy Easter,” or “Every Day Is a Blessed Day.” Seasonal door hanger lettering templates make this totally doable even if you’re short on time.

Cards

Handmade cards are having a major moment, and honestly, why wouldn’t they be? There is something so special about receiving a card that someone actually created by hand.

Spring gives you so many occasions to letter on cards: Easter greetings, Mother’s Day, teacher appreciation, and birthdays. For a spring feel, try pairing your lettering with a soft watercolor wash background.

Gift Tags for Flower Bouquets

This one is so underrated and so easy. If you’re gifting flowers this spring — for Mother’s Day, a birthday, or just because — a hand-lettered gift tag takes it from a sweet gesture to something truly memorable.

Cut small tag shapes from cardstock, punch a hole in the top, and letter a simple phrase like “Thinking of You,” “You Make the World Bloom,” or the recipient’s name in a pretty script.

Coordinate your ink colors with the flowers for a really polished, custom look. This is a great low-pressure project if you’re just starting out with lettering.

Everyday Spring Lettering Projects

Not every project needs to be for a holiday or front door. These ideas are all about bringing that spring energy into your everyday life.

Bullet Journals and Planners

If you’re a planner person, spring is such a fun season to refresh your layouts. Hand lettering makes your bullet journal headers, monthly covers, and weekly spreads feel custom and creative — and it’s a great, low-stakes way to practice your lettering skills regularly!

Try spring-themed section headers like “April Goals,” “Things in Bloom,” or “Seeds I’m Planting.” You could also use hand lettering practice sheets to work on specific styles before committing them to your journal pages. Florals, botanicals, and soft color blocking are all having a major moment in journaling right now — lean into it!

Flower Vase and Jar Labels

Here’s a project that’s equal parts practical and pretty. Whether you’re arranging fresh spring flowers in mason jars or organizing your pantry, hand-lettered labels make everything feel more intentional.

For vases or bud jars, keep your labels simple — just the flower name or a sweet word like “Joy,” “Fresh,” or “Bloom.” For pantry jars, letter your ingredient names or a simple “Made with Love” on kraft tags tied with twine.

You can use lettering templates as a size guide and adapt the design to whatever surface you’re working with — the beauty of templates is how flexible they are once you get the hang of them.

Which of These Ideas Will You Try?

Whether you’re looking for something to make for Easter, a thoughtful handmade gift, or just a fun way to refresh your space for the season, there’s something on this list for every skill level and every occasion. Save this list and come back to it all spring long!
